Outlook for Monday
11 August 2019 Weather
Issued at 1700 Sunday 11th August 2019
Low pressure far to the north east and a weak ridge of high pressure trying to build from the south west will cause Solent winds to veer from the south west to the north west overnight and decrease significantly. Frontal systems will continue to affect the Solent weather with plenty of cloud, risk of showers and thunderstorms on Monday afternoon. The next low is due on Wednesday, bringing rain & strong winds.
Monday 12th August 2019
A very different day forecast on Monday with much lighter winds expected. North westerly to start the day should be fairly steady funnelling out of Southampton Water, more variable in the western Solent & close to the mainland shore. Wind speeds from the north west forecast to be 5 – 10 knots first thing. A small front is forecast to track across the race area during the afternoon.
A backing trend in gradient from late morning through the afternoon towards the west and increasing, from 5 – 10 knots before midday up to 10 – 14/16 knots by 1800. There will be huge local variations in that wind around showers and thunderstorms. It is not yet 100% certain that the showers will affect the Solent.
