Issued at 1600 Friday 9thAugust 2019

Low pressure will dominate the weather for Cowes Week 2019. A very active low is sweeping north eastwards across the country. Once out in the North Sea on Sunday the Solent will be left in a south westerly gradient flow Sunday, Monday & Tuesday. The next Atlantic low is forecast to move into Ireland once again by Wednesday continuing the west to south westerly flow over the race areas throughout the week.

Friday night & Saturday 9th& 10thAugust 2019

South westerly winds of 20 – 30 knots gusting 35 – 45 perhaps 50 knots are expected overnight. Saturday average wind speeds forecast between at least 26 – 30 knots and very gusty. Gust speeds overnight Friday & throughout Saturday expected to be 30 – 40 knots and 40 – 45+ in the squally showers. No significant decrease expected until 2000 Saturday at the earliest.

Sunday 11thAugust 2019

A classic blustery south westerly wind with plenty of sunshine. Average speeds currently forecast to range between 16 – 20 knots. Gust speeds could reach 26 – 28+ knots but on the whole are currently expected to reach 20 – 24 knots. A bright sunny evening forecast with a slowly decreasing breeze.

Low pressure in control all week with a west to south westerly flow. There will be plenty of sunshine in between scattered showers and only a few bands of rain around fronts.
